The Truth Behind the Lies of Lust…
What is lust? Lust is essentially a manipulation of our natural desires or needs. I heard a pastor describe lust as the evil desire that is outside of God’s timing and God’s way. Masturbation is a great example of this. Our natural or God-given desire or need is for sex or sexual release. Masturbation is lust-fueled manipulation by which we gratify our desire outside of God’s timing, God’s will, and God’s way. This is what makes masturbation sinful. What is God’s timing? God’s timing for sex is when you are married. What is God’s will? It is to live within His design in all things. And God’s way? It is the sacred act of sex between a woman and her husband.
What does this teach us? Primarily, learning the truth behind the lies of lust is helpful for me because this teaches me that there is nothing wrong with my body in that I have the desire for sex or sexual pleasure. Think about it. Sex was created by God. Your body was created by God. The female sexual organs were crafted by God. God intentionally designed sex for marriage. He also intentionally designed for us to desire sex and to have a desire for our husbands (see Gen 3:16). I want you to understand that the problem is not your body. The problem is lust. The problem is sin! The problem is the lie that lust whispers in order to manipulate and attract you to sin. Sin is anything done that is outside of God’s timing, God’s will, and God’s way.
I want to uncover the lies behind masturbation. Masturbation is a counterfeit the devil made up to manipulate us into behaving outside of God’s timing, will, and way. The devil has been lying a long time. But his lies are never new. He says that God doesn’t know or understand our needs and we have to go about fulfilling our need a different way. It’s the same lie that dates all the back to the Garden. The serpent told Eve that God was withholding something from her. But really God was protecting her. Protecting her from death. God is still protecting us when He puts limits, boundaries, and “Do Not Enter” signs even on our sex life. Because He knows that when lust and sin mix together they ultimately bring forth death (James 1:15). Our God, our Protective Father doesn’t want us to experience anything outside of His good design. He created sex for a specific purpose, for a specific season, for a specific time. He created us to function within the design not without.
So please don’t listen to the lies in the world that say masturbation is not a sin. Why then does our conscience gnaw at us every time we give in? It is because we are going against our very own nature. Despite what the world says, it is not natural to masturbate. Why? Because God did not create us for masturbation nor masturbation for us. It is a lie. It is a counterfeit. It is a deception. It is a perversion. It is a manipulation. It is a weapon used by the enemy to destroy our souls. Listen, the world system works together with the devil to push the lie to make it believable, excusable, and acceptable. This is what turns a lie into deception. The world calls masturbation healthy, normal, necessary, good. God calls it lust. All lust is sin because it goes against God’s timing, God’s will, and God’s way. So yes, God designed us to have sex. No, He did not design us to fake it through masturbation.
The good news? First of all, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (see Rom 8:1). This means that since Jesus paid the debt for our sins, and because we believe in Him, we will no longer be punished for our sins. We are free from death because Jesus died in our place. Because you believe in Jesus, you are child of God (John 1:14) and as a child God now possesses you and treats you as His child by disciplining you (see Heb 12:7-8). He trains us, teaches us, coaches us, helps us to live a victorious Christian life free from the strongholds of our own fleshly lusts. That is why God led you to read this article. Not because you are not saved (if you believe in Jesus, you are saved! see Eph 2:8-9). But because you are now a child, you need to learn how to live according to your Father’s will, way, and timing. The purpose of PLM is to help women like you to shift their sights from their sin to their savior. We aren’t here to be behavior monitors. We are here to learn Christ’s mind so that our minds be can conformed to His. We do this by feeding the Truth of Christ to our souls.
If you take nothing else away from this article, take this: There is nothing wrong with you. There is nothing wrong with your body. You are living in the flesh and in the world just like the rest of us. You belong to God. And God wants to teach you have to live. Will you choose to live looking to Him and not to your sin (Hebrews 12:2)? Let’s go on this adventure together.
